125 member Spaulding High School Chorus is open to all students who enjoy singing. It is an active choral ensemble which performs at many events throughout the school year. No experience is needed.
Chorus rehearses daily from 12:35pm-1:25pm during a mini block. Music styles range from seasonal, classical, popular, gospel, jazz and contemporary. Students are taught to read music and sight sing through vocal exercises, concert music and small and large group rehearsal settings.
Grading in chorus is listed under the curriculum link and is competency based. Assessments are based on the musical preparation of the concert music, work ethic in chorus rehearsal and the student’s ability to sing the concert repertoire.
The first performance of the school year is the Seacoast Choral Festival in October. This concert is performed with six schools in the seacoast region and is a large exchange concert culminating in two large combined selections.
The second performance of the school year is the November Veterans Service where the chorus sings the Star Spangled Banner and other patriotic selections.
The annual holiday Village concert is an extensive event which features a floor to ceiling two ton steel Christmas Tree with 60 singers on the tree. There are three concerts and a Good Ole Sports Senior Citizen concert in December.
Other performances include school events such as open house, holiday concerts, elementary school tour, BLAST spring concert, MIOSM, and classical winter concert. Performances are mandatory and help choral students become experienced singers and performers.
This year the members of the chorus raised money to purchase new uniforms. The women are wearing tea length black dresses and sparkle dress shoes which have proven to look great with all of our singers. Men are wearing black dress shirts and black dress pants with red ties which are pre-tied for ease and uniformity. The men wear black dress shoes and black socks. The chorus members absolutely love their new uniforms and have received many compliments about their new look.
Chorus is an inclusive choral music ensemble which welcomes everyone who wishes to be part of a singing group and a large, diverse musical family.
