Jeff Coffin Clinic

posted May 8, 2018, 5:07 PM by Spaulding High Music

On Tuesday November 28th, the Spaulding High School Music Department was extremely happy to welcome back one of its greatest musical success stories as he presented a clinic, performed, and critiqued the jazz and concert bands. Three-time Grammy award-winner and 1983 graduate of Spaulding High School, Jeff Coffin -  saxophonist with the Dave Matthews Band and formerly with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - returned to his alma mater on a mission to "give back." Accompanied by a number of representatives from the Yamaha Corporation, whose saxophones Mr. Coffin regularly uses and endorses, the artist shared words of wisdom with the students on being both a better musician and a better person. As sponsors of the event, Yamaha was also very generous in its support of our program and surprised the students with some very special gifts, among which were over $1000 worth of woodwind mouthpieces, ligatures, and reeds along with a brand new Yamaha xylophone! Students were also each given posters and a $20 gift certificate they can use to contribute towards other music programs in need through the donorschoose.org website! Clearly, both Yamaha and Jeff Coffin care deeply about supporting the cause of Music Education and have gone above and beyond in support of the Spaulding Music program. We're very appreciative of everything they've done for us and look forward to putting their gifts to use right away!
