Dance
 

Competencies:

1)   APPRECIATION- Students will understand that dance can communicate in ways that the written or spoken word cannot. Students will gain awareness of the history of dance as an art form, entertainment, and a social/recreational activity.  (30%)

2)   TECHNIQUE- Students will understand that there are a number of important dance skills to be mastered.  (35%)

3)   PARTICIPATION- Students will understand the basic dance skills required to allow them to begin active participation in dance now, or later in life.  (35%)

 

Performance Indicators:

A-1) Demonstrate an understanding of the function of various types of dance.
A-2)
Participate in class discussions.
A-3)
Demonstrate knowledge of various decades of dance.
A-4)
Research dancers throughout the decades.

T-1)
Construct a notebook  of dance terminology and dance choreography.
T-2)
Analyze and apply knowledge of the technical development of  dance in each decade.
T-3)
Demonstrate/Perform the basic dance steps of each routine.

P-1)
Daily class participation in performing dance steps for each routine.
P-2)
Develop individual appropriate choreography to match the style of the music.
